Something About Welland
There's something about Welland and it's not exactly clear.
We just can't seem to pull off a victory against the Welland teams.
The kids played well and dug down deep to give forth a great effort, but it seemed that one player from the Welland lineup was unstoppable.
Welland opened up the scoring in the first period, but when the second period started the Smith Industrial Sailors came to life. They scored two quick goals to take the lead. The lead didn't last too long because that Welland kid tied it up. Then we got a penalty, and the penalty killing was excellent; their hard work paid off with a short handed goal. Not long after, Welland tied the game again.
The play went end to end for a good part of the game with both goalies on each team making some very nice saves. Then out of a scramble in our own end, we were called for another penalty. Again the penalty killing was excellent; their hard work paid off with a second short handed goal. Fantastic job kids.
Unfortunately, Welland tied the game with about four minutes remaining, and then clinched it with their game winning goal with just over a minute remaining.
It was a great effort but we will have to try a little harder for the next game.
