All the hard work pays off

The Port Colborne LL #2 Sailors team sponsored by Metal Roofs Niagara and Claire's Delivery Ltd., finished off the 2016-17 NDLL Regular Season with their twenty-sixth victory clinching 1st place when they defeated the Welland #4 Team by the score of  4 - 1.

It was a "Must Win" for the team to secure 1st place in the Bantam NDLL Standings.  The team members that were able to take part in this game played their hearts out to earn the much needed win.  They showed a ton of determination and effort to make this happen.

Welland took the lead in the first minute of the game, but that early goal only lasted until the two and a half minute mark of the 2nd period when Darius found the back of the net with a hard shot from the point; the only helper went to Kyle.  Then just over two minutes later, Jack pulled the puck back from the crowd in front of the net and fired the biscuit into the open net for the eventual game winning goal.  Johnny and Alex were awarded the assists on that goal.

With only 19 seconds expired off the clock in the 3rd period, Mason snapped a beauty goal past a surprised Welland keeper when he was set up by a D to D pass orchestrated by Tyler and Darius that sent him in with his speed and and wicked shot for the big insurance goal.  Then with three and a half minutes left in the game, the Orange Crush Machine was once again, applying some great pressure on their opponents with their fore-checking that earned Conner and Hunter the assists on Mason's 2nd goal of the game to clinch the victory.

These kids played one heck of a game, and all of of the boys had an incredible regular season that has made my coaching staff and I very very proud, along with every parent and friend of this team.  Unbelievable effort by everyone!!!!

With earning this accomplishment, this team was a dominant force throughout the season as they finished with a very impressive record of 26 wins and only 2 losses (both to Pelham #3) to earn them 1st place in the NDLL, that is comprised of 19 teams from around the Niagara Region.

The boys led all teams in scoring with 156 goals, and were tied with Pelham #3 for the league lead for the least goals against of 44.  The Mighty Orange Crush also led the league with 9 shutouts.  A total team effort to help the goalie earn this accomplishment.

A perfect effort executed by every kid and coach on the team.

But, when it all comes down to reality, the regular season is just practice and placement for the playoffs.
This is where it's all begins boys, but this time it's for real.
So let it be known that our next goal is to win the NDLL Playoff Championship.
