A Fun & Successful 2017 Golden Puck Tournament
On Sunday February 26th, the 53rd Annual Golden Puck Tournament in honour of the founder, Martin Van Gool, came to a close with three fantastic Championship games at the Novice, Atom, and Peewee levels.

First off, we want to thank our gracious sponsors for their support with our tournament.

Secondly, we would like to thank all the players and their parents for coming to Port Colborne, and taking part in our tournament.

And finally, A big thank you also goes out to all who helped organize and run the tournament.

Thank you all!!!

We hope that everyone enjoyed themselves while here at our tournament in Port Colborne.  There were quite a few teams that came from near and far to participate in hopes of being crowned the eventual champions.

Well, in all sadness, all tournaments must eventually come to an end with one team from each division earning a championship title, On Sunday there were three fantastic Championship games played that were very exciting to watch as the competition between all the teams was very evenly matched

Novice Championship

At the Novice level, Caledonia rocked the building when they scored the game winning goal with just 7.6 seconds left on the game clock.  It was a very close game and so much fun to watch.  Congratulations to the Championship team, the Caledonia Thunder and the runner-ups, the Lincoln Blades.  You kids played a fantastic game full of excitement.  Congratulations Caledonia!!!

Final Score;
                     Caledonia Thunder   3                                           Lincoln Blades   2

Atom Championship

In the second Championship game, we saw two Atom teams collide who were coming off very exciting quarter-final games.  Both teams came into the final game with undefeated records: Tillsonburg’s only blemish was a 1 – 1 tie versus Ayr #2 team. The Pelham Panthers got to the finals by shutting down a very strong Welland team where they were to meet up with the Tillsonburg Tornadoes.  The action in this game was intense with the Tornadoes securing a 3 – 1 victory to go undefeated and crowned as the Atom Champs.  Congratulations Tillsonburg!!!

Final Score;
                     Tillsonburg Tornadoes   3                               Pelham Pantherss   1

Peewee Championship

This game was a very close battle between another set of teams who were undefeated coming into the final game.  Luck was on the side of the Elmvale Coyotes in their last two games where they took advantage of some unusual breaks and made the most of them.  Both goaltenders in this match played excellent games with the Wainfleet goalie allowing one more goal than his counterpart.  Elmvale’s #19 played a stellar game leading the way with the game winning goal late in the 3rd period. Wainfleet gave all they had in the last few minutes to try and force the game into overtime, but they just couldn’t solve the Coyote goalie.  Congratulations Elmvale!!!

Final Score;
                     Elmvale Coyotes   3                                              Wainfleet Wild   2
