2018 Martin Van Gool Memorial Golden Puck Hockey Tournament

Tournament Rules and Regulations

 

1.  There will be three ten minute stop time periods.

     Teams must be ready to start 15 minute before your schedule game.

2.   (a) NO TIME OUTS during Round Robin games.

  Only one (1) time-out per team during regulation time in any playoffs games.

      (b) During the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period in any Round Robin games where the goal differential is greater than5 goals, the time                  clock will run straight time. It will then revert back to stop time once the goal differential is reduced to 4 goals.

3.  The first team named on the schedule is the home team.

4.  Points will be awarded as shown for round robin games
           
3 Points for a Regulation Win
            
2 Points for a Overtime/Shoot-out Win
            
1 Point for a Overtime/Shoot-out Loss
            
0 Points for a Regulation Loss
       
If the score of the game is tied after regulation time has expired, the teams will engage In a  Sudden Victory Overtime
Period.
Note:  All minor penalties will end with regulation time;
   All misconduct or major 
penalties still have to be served out.
   
If a player's misconduct or major penalty is still not served out by the end of the one minute long Sudden
   Victory Overtime Period, that player will not be eligible to take 
part in the sudden death shoot-out

    Sudden Victory Overtime Rules for Round Robin Games are as follows…

·         The single overtime will be 1 minute long. NO TIME-OUTS

·         NO changing on the fly or at any stoppage of play, also the goalie must remain on the ice at all times
          during the overtime periods.

·         Minor penalties called during overtime will result in a penalty shot. Coincidental minors shall be served in
          the usual manor.

·         Any major or match penalties called, will be served in the usual manor and a penalty shot will be
          awarded.
If the game is still tied after Sudden Victory Overtime Period, a 'sudden-death' shoot-out will take place to reach a decision.  All players can be used for the shoot-out including the players who just finished the 1 minute 3 on 3 period

          Note: Your team must use all of its players on the game sheet before a player can shoot for the second time. 


5.  Once the Round Robin portion of the tournament is complete, the following format will be followed for playoff qualification.
Novice - Top two (2) teams in each division with the most points will move on to the semi-finals round
Atom - Top team in each division and three (3) wild card teams with the most points will move on to the semi-finals round.
Peewee - Top team in each division and three (3) wild card teams with the most points will move on to the semi-finals round.
Note:  Wildcard teams must play a team from a different division in semi-final games.

      If teams are tied after Round Robin play, the following will be the tie-breaker format for the playoffs…
a) Team with most wins.
b) Head to head method for two teams ONLY.
c) The Goals For Percentage is the tie breaking formula.
(Goals For / (Goals For + Goal Against) = your percentage) Highest % moves on
d) The plus differential on goals for and against.
e) The lowest total of goals scored against.
   
f) The highest total of goals scored for.

        Note: Goals for will not exceed a total plus minus of 7 goals.
      g) The team with the least number of total penalty minutes in the tournament.
      h) If teams are all still tied after all the above, the tie will be broken by the flip of a coin.
       i) The best looking mom contest, voting done by the Golden Puck Hockey Committee.  (lol)

    
6.  Sudden Victory Overtime Rules for Playoff Games will…

          Start with 4 on 4;

          Then go to 3 on 3;

          Then again, 3 on 3

          If the game is still tied, after the Sudden Victory Overtime, a Sudden Deeath Shoot-out will occur.
  One a player from each team will shoot at the same time against the opposing team's goaltender.
  First team to score will win the game.  

             
     

For the playoffs, all coaches will have to submit a list of the players to be used on the ice in this format listed below before the game.

(i)   A line up of 4 skaters for the first overtime period (these players cannot be used again unless there is a shoot-out
(ii)  A line up of 3 skaters for the second overtime period (these players cannot be used again unless there is a shoot-out) 
(iii) A line up of 3 skaters for the third overtime period (these players cannot be used again unless there is a shoot-out

Note:  All minor penalties will end with regulation time; all misconduct or major penalties still have to be served out.
           If a player's misconduct or major penalty is still not served out by the end of the 3 one minute long periods in      overtime, that player will not be eligible to take part in the shoot-out 

a) The overtime will be played in 1 minute periods. NO TIME-OUTS

c) The goalie must remain on the ice at all times during the overtime periods.
d) Minor penalties called during overtime will result in a penalty shot.
    Coincidental minors shall be served in the usual manor.
e) Any major or match penalties called, will be served in the usual manor and a penalty shot will be awarded.

 

7.  All OMHA & Niagara District rules apply plus the above mentioned times and overtime rules.

 

8.  All OMHA Rosters will be available for production upon request at any time.

 

9.  PROTESTS:  All protests must be in writing and submitted within 30 minute of the completion of the protested game.
Each protest must be accompanied by a $100.00 cash deposit. This will be refunded if the team wins its protest.


10. SUSPENSIONS:  Any player or team official receiving a match penalty will be expelled from any further tournament play.
