Tournament Championships
Submitted By Len Carthew on Tuesday, April 04, 2017
During the month of March, three Port Colborne teams left town to go play in tournaments here in Ontario.  The Peewee LL #1 team went to Simcoe, the Atom BB Rep team went to Huntsville, and the Bantam LL #2 team went to Bradford.  I’m sure that all three teams had a great time on and off the ice, but two of the teams managed to win Championships in the tournaments they traveled to.

The Atom BB Sailors Rep team sponsored by Golden Puck Hockey travelled the farthest, going north to Hunstville for the weekend of March 17th – 19th.  They played hard going undefeated to win The Knights of Columbus Tournament Championship for the third year in a row.  They defeated teams from Minto, Paris, and Flesherton.  Then on Sunday, the boys coached by Dwayne Moorman beat Muskrat 2 – 0 in the Final game for the Championship and bragging rights once again.

One week later, a second championship trophy was won by the Bantam LL#2 team coached by Len Carthew.  The Bantam team didn’t have to travel as far north as the Rep team, but they found themselves in a tournament based out of Bradford, just east of Newmarket.  These guys played their games in Alliston, Innisfil and 3 games in Aurora at the beautiful La Brier Family Arena at St. Andrews Private College

They too, went undefeated throughout their tournament beating Milton, Lucknow, and Owen Sound.  They then had to face a familiar foe from Thorold in the Semi-Finals, beating them 5 - 1 to move into the Championship game vs. Innisfil.  The final contest was a very close game with the final score being 5 - 2 in favor of the Port Colborne team sponsored by Claire’s Delivery Service and Metal Roofs Niagara.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU !!!
