A Very Challenging Game
The Kids showed a few hiccups against a tough Welland team.
It was a crisp cool morning in Welland when the Smith Industrial Sailors rolled in to take on one of the leagues highest scoring teams. Both teams took turns applying pressure in each others offensive zones, but our boys couldn't direct as many shots to the Welland goal as they had on our net.
The first period went scoreless, and then in the second period, Welland opened the scoring with 2 quick goals just 30 seconds apart. Less than 30 seconds after Welland scored their 2nd goal, Lucas took a shot from the high slot that found the back of the net; the only assist went to Charlie. Then with just 8 seconds left in the 2nd stanza, Eric B. took a shot from just inside the blue line that hit the goal post and went in; this goal was assisted by Darius.
This should have sparked our team for the 3rd period being all tied at 2 a piece, but just 23 seconds into the period, Welland took the lead again and added another goal just over a minute later. That didn't phase the Sailors as they fought back to score a pair of quick goals themselves. Eric B stuffed in his 2nd goal of the game with assists going to his line mates Robert and Kohl. Then just over a minute later, Jack scored his first goal of the season. This all happened when Lucas broke through their defense, took a hard shot that slid past the Welland goalie to lie in the crease for Jack to pounce on; the second assist went to Eric M. Awesome job to fight back again and even the score, but just 30 seconds later Welland scored the eventual game winner from a neutral ice giveaway. Three minutes later, another Welland breakaway found the back of the net to seal the deal for the first place Welland team.
A fantastic effort on a well played game. We will get them next time with more shots on goal.
