A Very Close Game
The Smith Industrial Sailors collide with a hot Mudcat Goaltender

The same group of kids from Saturday's game gathered in Dunnville on Sunday for a bout with the Mudcats.  It was a game mostly dominated by the Smith Industrial Sailors, but they didn't know that they would be facing a hot goaltender who was determined to have the game of his life.  The Sailors kids had many scoring chances, only to be stymied by Sewal, the Mudcat goalie.

The teams started off the game with some great plays going end to end for the first 5 minutes or so, and then the Sailors started to turn up the pressure hemming the Mudcats in their own zone for most of the rest of the game.  There was no scoring in the first frame but with 3 minutes gone in the second period, the puck seemed to be covered, the ref apparently could still see the puck, and it popped out loose from the scuffle for a Dunnville forward to score the first goal.  Then just over 3 minutes later, Dunnville went up 2-0 when a screen shot beat Ryan high on the glove side.

Four minutes into the third period, Kaleb got the Sailors on the board when he took a pass from Dillan and buried it past the Mudcat keeper.  Two minutes later, the kids had a hard time clearing their own zone, and a Dunnville sniper scored high glove side from the slot.  But the kids didn't give up; they kept on bringing pressure to the Mudcat end shooting the puck towards the goal time and time again only to be stymied by a very hot goalie.  With 2 minutes left in the game, the kids once again applied pressure on the Mudcats and it finally paid off.  Robert scored into the gaping net when he pulled a rebound from in front of the net and shot it in with authority, helper went to Kaleb after his shot forced the goalie to make a save that pulled him out of position for Robert to score.  The kids applied more pressure in he last minute and twenty seconds, but again couldn't solve the Mudcat keeper.

The kids put forth a gallant effort and really deserved to earn at least a point, but it wasn't in the cards for them as they just came up short of doing so.  Final score, Dunnville 3; Smith Industrial Sailors 2.
I'm sure the winning ways will return in the New Year.

Have a great holiday everyone.
